I fell in love with you because you are you. I want you. Leon, become my husband.

— Angelica declared to Leon during their engagement ceremony. [1]

Angelica Rapha Redgrave (アンジェリカ・ラファ・レッドグレイブ, Anjerika Rafa Reddogureibu) is one of the heiresses of the Redgrave Household, the daughter of Duke Redgrave and the former fiancée of Prince Julius Rapha Holfort. She later became one of the first fiancées of Leon Fou Bartfort after the Principality invasion.

Appearance[]

Angelica is a beautiful girl with blonde hair that seems to sparkle with an upswept hairstyle along with white skin, fierce red eyes, quite big breasts and an attractive body

Her academy uniform consist of white shirt underneath a black blazer, with a red knot, grey skirt, black pantyhose and black shoes

Personality[]

Initially, Angelica's outward impression is a dignified yet had-to-approach young lady. Due to the high expectations for her as a future queen, Angelica disciplined herself from a young age to become a proper lady and not shame her fiancé and family. Hence, she habitually kept her emotions in check, making her appear stern and cold-hearted. After her engagement with Julius was dissolved, Angelica began mellowing out and showing her true self to others.

Angelica is a strong-willed and assertive woman, unafraid to speak her mind and act. The Duke's daughter also has a fierce temper and is quick to be angry. Notably, even Angelica's typical acts are often viewed as aggressive and intimidating unless she deliberately tries to be gentle. As a result, she occasionally scares people off, even if she doesn't mean to. For example, when she learned about a female student's mild crush on Leon, Angelica went to speak and discouraged that student from approaching Leon. Though the third party could see it as an act of threat, Angelica insisted it was a moderate measure.

In contrast to Leon's more laid-back personality, Angelica is passionate and takes her actions and decisions seriously. Angelica will commit to her course once she decides whether it is about her duty, hobby, or romantic relationship. Nonetheless, Her passion has proved to be both beneficial and detrimental. While she becomes a capable woman due to her effort, Angelica sometimes pushes herself too hard and cannot handle failure or disappointment well.

Regarding her romantic life, Angelica is a devoted lover to Julius and later Leon. Not only is she extraordinarily committed to the relationship, but she also constantly considers and acts on choices of actions that can benefit her partner. However, Angelica is a possessive woman who can quickly become jealous if another woman approaches her lover. Although she acknowledges that having multiple wives and lovers is typical among the nobility, Angelica can hardly stand the idea of her partner having other women. Moreover, while she can remain level-headed most of the time, Angelica tends to become emotional and reckless about her romantic partner. Her possessiveness and fierce temper often cause her to make rash decisions, putting her in a rough position on multiple occasions.

Born into a family proud of its adventurer lineage, Angelica is fascinated by the stories of great adventures, such as exploring an unknown land and challenging a dungeon. She is filled with child-like joy when she can go on an adventure herself. Inherently, Angelica is also an unusual noblewoman who does not hesitate to engage in combat.

Like most nobles, Angelica used to discriminate against the commoners. In her first meeting with Olivia, Angelica bluntly told the latter that she did not belong to the Academy. Nevertheless, She is a reasonable person who deems the abuse of power an ugly thing. Notably, Angelica never used her family's power to harm Marie physically despite the latter stealing her fiancé from her. Angelica is also a lot kinder than her initial impression gave off. She is willing to help people in need, especially those close to her.

Story Overview[]

Original Game Story: Otome Game
In the original Otome game, Angelica was the first antagonist. She grew jealous of Olivia's closeness to the prince and challenged her to a duel, with the prince and his group stepping up to represent Olivia and no one representing Angelica. She lost the duel and was humiliated. Afterwards, she was forced to marry an older man below her social standing and move to the countryside. According to Leon, she'd live the remainder of her life bitter and miserable, forgotten about by everyone else.

Volume 1[]

After several weeks passed since the entrance ceremony, Julius and Jilk were walking in the academy's courtyard with their followers and the female students accompanying them, the female students asked Julius when he was going to hold the tea ceremony and they all would like to participate in it. Angelica then came with her followers and approached Julius about the tea ceremony, asking if it was alright if they could attend it together. Julius rebuked Angelica for forcing her way into the conversation as this was the academy to which Angelica replied that the conversation around him was rather loud. Julius then noticing Marie, asked her to come over as he had something to talk about with her. Seeing this, Angelica's eyebrows twitched and one of her followers whispered something about Marie to Angelica. Julius then said as the other boys were also going to arrange tea ceremonies so he doesn't want to hold a flashy one and was planning to only invite acquaintances so he wants Marie to attend his tea ceremony. Angelica objects to it as Julius was the crown prince, so a suitable tea ceremony should be held even if it is not a flashy one but Julius doesn't head to Angelica's objections at all. Julius then tells Angelica to stop as even if she was his fiancé, they were at the academy and he was just a student, so she shouldn't interfere with his affairs that much. Angelica hearing this, excuses herself for the discourtesy she has shown, and glares at Marie before leaving with her followers following her.

Olivia, with the help of Leon, sends a gift to Angelica and asks for a meeting with her. Angelica accepts her request and calls for her after a few days, praising her greeting, as it was suitable behavior when meeting a superior. Olivia then timidly asks Angelica if she would let her stay in the academy. Angelica then told her she could with just a nod, drank her tea and went to her dorm, they would have been done, but Olivia asking questions made the conversation more complicated. She then says that she has no interest in driving Olivia from the academy at all. Angelica then asks Olivia who was the one who taught her about this greeting, wondering who helped her as most people kept their distance from the honor student. Olivia explains that it was Leon who helped her. When Angelica heard his name, she wasn't very surprised, saying that Leon was quite an oddball. Olivia was a bit surprised that Angelica knew about him. Angelica then explained that Leon was a knight with high hopes placed on him for the future as he had already earned the baron rank due to his achievements as an adventurer.

Several weeks later Angelica recommends Leon to be sent into the dungeon as a guard for the Prince and his entourage, along with Angelica, Olivia and Marie as part of a class lesson. When groups were being made to explore the dungeon, Angelica is against Marie being in the same group as Julius and an argument happens between them. While Leon and Olivia went as the vanguards, the prince's group and Angelica's are in the middle, with the former in front of the latter. The prince's group then encountered six giant ant monsters. As they had come from a side road so the groups in the front had missed them. Angelica then shouted out to the two groups who were in the front and back of the prince's group to protect them. But Greg shouted them to move back while killing one, and the other four were handled by Chris, Brad and Jilk. The last one headed towards Julius while Angelica was shouting to protect him. Jilk then reprimanded Angelica telling her that Julius wasn't someone weak. Julius was able to defeat the ant and Marie went to him asking him if he was okay. Angelica then approached Julius, pushing Marie away and offered a towel to Julius. But Julius ignored it and took Marie's hand moving forward in the dungeon.

Angelica crying

After a few days, Angelica is called out by Julius who tells her that he has questioned the girls who were bullying Marie and they all said that they were ordered by her. Angelica denies this as those girls weren't her followers but Julius refuses to believe her telling her to stay away from both Marie and them as well as telling her that their engagement when they are outside. As they are in school Julius tells her not to meddle in their affairs anymore. Back in her room in the academy, Angelica's followers are voicing their complaints about how Marie is getting too close to the prince's entourage and how Julius was buying an exclusive servant for Marie. Angelica tells them to stop and asks them to leave her alone for now. After the girls leave, Angelica takes a nearby object and throws it away, frustrated at how Julius believed in Marie more than her. Crying a bit, she sat down where she was standing.

At the End-of-Term Party, Angelica gets into a quarrel with Julius about Marie. In a fit of rage, she challenges Marie to duel and the prince and his group decide to act as Marie's representatives. But no one came forward as Angelica's representative. She was just steeling her will to fight against them when Leon came forward, declaring that he will act as Angelica's representative and then going on to mock the group. Leon then asks Angelica's intention in initiating the duel. She tells him that she just wants Marie to stay away from Julius. Marie states that she wants the fighting to stop and after the conditions are set. Jilk states that the duel will be five one-on-one matches. Leon agrees before taunting the prince directly.

The next day, Angelica has the teachers prepare a room for her to speak to Leon alone. She asks him to withdraw from the duel, only for him to explain that his image won't improve even if he did. She explains that her room was also vandalized and that her family wasn't helping her, so he has nothing to gain. Leon then tells her that he wasn't trying to get on her family's good side and admits that he just wanted to beat them up. She asks him about how it will affect his family, but Leon explains that, as he is technically an independent knight, his family isn't involved at all. Leon goes on to tell her that he is confident that he can win especially since they're not as strong as the school standards claim they are.

The day of the duel comes finally. As Leon walks into the arena, Angelica rushes forward and asks him where his armor Leon replies that it will be arriving soon. Right after that Arroganz lands in the center of the arena. Arroganz's appearance is met with laughter due to its size, while Angelica asking him if he was going to fight with this armor believing that the armor wasn't fit for this duel. Leon then said that she will understand when the duel starts and gets on Arroganz. Leon's first opponent was Brad and when Leon took out a shovel instead of a weapon, Brad became furious at him. So before the teacher could formally start the duel, Brad rushed forward with his spear imbued in magic but Leon moved Arroganz lightly to the side and immediately seized his arm and pinned him telling him to calm down as they have to take the oath of the duel before the fight. Olivia seeing this was excited telling Angelica that Leon could win this duel. While Angelica was surprised by the light movements made by Arroganz as she couldn't believe that such a heavy armor could move in such a way. The students who were watching became restless after seeing how Arroganz moved, each telling how much they had betted against Leon. Angelica hearing this began to laugh stating that Leon was quite a cruel person but Olivia argues that he wasn't cruel at all and is a kind person.

When the fight begins Brad was easily blown away by a single swing of the shovel of Arroganz and after that Leon stomped on Brad's armor to prevent him from moving. Brad was forced to admit defeat or else he would have been crushed by Arroganz.

When Leon fought against Greg, he is easily defeated with Leon being furious at Greg for being too prideful to use proper equipment and mocks at his weakness. Olivia gets upset at Leon's behavior during the fight and thought Leon should apologize to Greg later. Angelica, hearing this, told Olivia that Leon apologizing would only hurt Greg's pride more.

When Leon defeated his next opponent Chris, Olivia was glad for his victory but she was also sad at how cruel he was towards Chris during the fight. Angelica admonishes Olivia upon hearing this, telling her that Leon had to stay vigilant or he might lose.

After the fight against Chris, there was a break before the next fight. During the break Leon runs into Angelica and Olivia, and the two told him that Jenna had asked them to check on him. Leon then fights against Jilk with Jilk becoming unconscious after he was defeated by Leon. Before Leon's match against Julius, he asks Julius what he thinks about Olivia but he gets an underwhelming answer from the prince.

When the two of them began to fight, even when Julius was backed down into a corner, he refused to give up saying that Marie was the only girl he loved and Angelica's love towards him wasn't love at all. Olivia then suddenly shouts that Julius loves Marie, but Angelica loves Julius as well. Olivia then shouts that if Angelica didn't love Julius she wouldn't watch this fight with such a pained expression. Angelica tried to stop Olivia but she didn't stop further telling why Julius was denying Angelica's feelings and shouting that if two people don't have mutual feelings that doesn't mean that it is not love. Julius rebukes that forcing someone's feelings on another person isn't love. Julius then declares that match to be a deathmatch by his authority as a crown prince. Leon mocks Julius about using his title as a shield despite complaining about it earlier. Leon explains that he couldn't kill the crown prince so Julius was probably hoping that Leon would forfeit. The prince then charges at him but Leon uses Impact to destroy his armor and knock him unconscious. Leon was then declared the winner of the match. After exiting Arroganz, Leon has a small conversation with Olivia and Angelica before Angelica heads to check on Julius.

In the medical room, Angelica tells Julius that she was happy that he wasn't hurt. Julius then asks her to stop her acting as it was all due to her representative. Angelica asks what she has done wrong as she has been trying so hard for his sake. Julius tells her that she just wanted the crown prince's fiancé's position which she denies earnestly. Then Julius replies that he isn't wrong and asks her to tell him what was his favorite dish. Angelica replies to it but Julius says that she was wrong as he likes to eat skewer foods which he ate when he went out incognito once. But as it was commoner's food he couldn't say it to her because she would also try to prevent him from eating it. Angelica hearing this tries to say that she would never have stopped him. But Julius disregards her words saying that Marie was easily able to understand him and had invited him to a cart to eat. Julius then states that the only one he can love is Marie. When Angelica says that she is fine as long she gets to be by his side, Julius replies that he cannot love her. Angelica, hearing this, tells Julius that she would be rooting for his happiness and leaves the room. Her engagement with Julius is then dissolved.

Angelica, with Leon and Olivia, goes to Leon's home during the summer vacation in Leon's ship Partner. Angelica and Olivia were in a guest room on the Partner, Angelica telling Olivia her feelings couldn't reach Julius at all and how she utterly lost to Marie. Olivia denied that Angelica had done anything wrong but Angelica instead that she got both of them involved in her mess due to her selfishness. Olivia then told her that Leon had resolved himself to drop out from the academy and reprimanded Angelica for going to Julius after the duel without properly thanking Leon for what he has done.

Angelica and Olivia went with Leon to inspect the floating island which he had discovered. Olivia was amazed by how beautiful the land was despite no people present. Angelica then said wasn't it in the opposite way to which Olivia replied that land can't be maintained without being managed by people at all and was amazed that robots were able to do this. Angelica then said that something smells strange to which Leon then leaded them to the outdoor bath on the floating island. Olivia and Angelica took a bath making small conversation with each other. Angelica suddenly says she envied Olivia as she thought that Leon and Olivia were lovers as they were always together and they would probably get married in the future. Olivia replies that it was not like that as they have a huge difference in their social positions. Olivia then said that Leon probably likes Angelica, or else he wouldn't have gone so far. Angelica then immediately replied that it was not possible as she was a terrible person who had been abandoned by the crown prince Julius.

When Angelica goes to Leon's home, she was confronted by Zola, asking her who she was to behave quite rudely towards her. But when Angelica's identity as the duke's daughter was revealed, Zola's behavior took a roundabout turn and started to treat her in a courteous manner. When Angelica asked Zola why the eldest son, Rutart wasn't helping out with the household duties and why is she constantly away from the residence. Zola tried to dodge the question by asking Angelica for why she was here to which Angelica replied that she had come for sightseeing and would be staying at Leon's home until her household contacts her. She then told Zola not to worry as she would be paying lodging expenses to the barony for letting her stay here. After hearing this Zola was quite flustered and returned to the Royal Capital the next day with her children. Leon applauded Angelica who was able to make Zola scurry back home with so much ease.

During the whole vacation, Angelica and Olivia went to the hot spring for their bath on Leon's floating island. One day after the two of them had taken their bath, Olivia said to both Leon and Angelica to call her as Livia as she was called Livia by everyone at her home. Hearing this Angelica also told them to call her as Angie as people only close to her called that. When Angelica began to criticize herself, Olivia said she wasn't like that, but still Angelica continued telling that sometimes she thought of taking revenge. Hearing this Olivia was worried, but Leon said that it was fine. Leon then asked if Angelica wanted revenge on them then he had the perfect method for it. Olivia tried to stop Leon and Angelica hesitantly asking if taking revenge was fine. Leon said that it was okay and the best method to get revenge is to make herself happy. Angelica was a bit surprised when she heard this with Leon explaining that the five of them would be punished due to their deeds and when she flaunts happiness at the time when they are at their, then that would revenge against them. Olivia hearing if that was revenge then she was going to support Angelica on getting her revenge. They also helped with the field work, with Olivia teaching Angelica how to do it.

Angelica and Olivia were on the deck of the airship of the Redgrave's, where Angelica described how the nobles were ranked and how could they be promoted to the next rank. After hearing Angelica's explanation Olivia understood that Leon gained a lot of recognition for him to be promoted to sixth rank. Olivia then told that she really thought Leon was going to demote from the baron rank and then told Angelica that Leon had spent all the money he got from the betting. Angelica hearing this thinks if that was the thing which did it but not able to arrive at a suitable conclusion changed the topic. Angelica then told Olivia that Leon was going to promoted soon so she asked Olivia if she could come to which she replied that she has never attended such events and she doesn't have an outfit for such occasions. Angelica replied that it wasn't a problem at all as Olivia could come wearing her uniform. Angelica was present during Leon's promotion to baron sixth noble rank. After the new term started Angelica's followers tried various ways to regain her trust with Angelica being fed up with their efforts. While Leon was sitting on a bench in the school courtyard and was lost in deep thought thinking about something, Angelica and Olivia came and sat on each side of Leon. Then they took Leon with them to a stall which was famous for their crepes.

Volume 2[]

During the school festival, Leon opens a café with Angelica, Olivia, Raymond, and Daniel helping him with the café. But with Marie and the prince's entourage open a competing café next door to them, they don't have much of a success. On the opening day, Angelica had to leave and went to meet with the queen, Mylene, as she had come incognito to watch the school festival and meet with Leon. When they arrived at the café, they saw Leon being bullied by an earl's daughter. Angelica, not able to see Leon being treated that badly, lashes out at the earl's daughter and tells her to leave. Olivia tries to stop them from fighting, but she puts some discord in the relationship between Angelica and Olivia, telling Olivia that she was just a pet to them being a commoner and they could never be friends. Leon on recognizing the queen, used the fact that the earl's daughter insulted her as an excuse, uses the opportunity to take out several of the girl's follower and Angelica had to call Master to stop Leon. After the incident, Leon jokingly proposes to the queen, much to Mylene's embarrassment and both Angelica's and Olivia's annoyance. Julius then bursts into the room, and having overheard Leon's proposal, tries to start a fight with him, only to be scolded by his mother. After everyone left the café leaving only Angelica, Leon and Olivia in the room. Just then Carla enters the café, telling that she had asked Olivia to introduce herself to Leon. Leon then asks for what business she had come here and why she had asked Olivia as the middleman in the introduction. Carla then asks Leon to save their family by subjugating the sky pirates in their territory.

At the last day of the festival, Angelica and Olivia were walking around the academy, with the atmosphere around them still being a bit odd due to the previous incident. Then they went to meet with Leon who was placing heavy bets on the airbike race (which Olivia disapproves of), but after Jilk is injured and they went to the hospital room to see Jilk. While in Jilk's hospital room, Clarice enters to mock Jilk and threatens him not to come to the finals as he won't be spared before leaving. When Leon heard that Angelica's reputation will go down as she was the first-year's representative, he decides to participate under the condition that Jilk owes him a favor afterwards.

During the finals of the airbike race, Angelica was a bit worried as Leon was being assaulted by everyone during the race. The earl's daughter then comes and starts a fight with Angelica. Olivia tries to come in between them to stop them from fighting but the earl's daughter yells at her to stay out of their conversation and told Olivia how Angelica used to despise commoners in the past. Olivia runs off after hearing this and Angelica in her anger punches the earl's daughter and gets into a fight with her.

Angelica and the earl's daughter

Leon went to meet with Angelica when Clarice told him to meet with Angelica as a misunderstanding had occurred between her and Olivia. Leon after hearing the situation from Angelica went to meet with Olivia. The next day Angelica went to dorms for the regular classes with a gift for Olivia and ask her for her forgiveness. But when she found Olivia's room, the earl's daughter was there and after talking with her Angelica understood that the sky pirates was a trap for Leon. When the earl's daughter told that Olivia had also gone with Leon to subjugate, Angelica grabbed hers collars and thrust her towards the wall asking what she had done to Olivia. Angelica then threatened her saying that she should make an example out of her as a lot of people were belittling her. Angelica then decided to head towards the duke household and chase after Leon in a duke's airship.

From this point on the friendship of the three became estranged. Angelica slapped Leon when she found out that he made Olivia cry, she had talked with Olivia in the ship's room then she was thinking to herself if she has the right to blame Leon and stay as friends with Olivia. When she got out of the room she was wondering if their friendship will go back to the way it used to be.

During the school trip Angelica coincidentally met up with Olivia when she heard someone arguing that turned out to be Leon. Leon is trying to bought all of the charms the masked man is selling but he said he can't because a lot of people is looking forward to these in the festival. Angelica grabbed Leon's ear and pulled him, then the masked man thanked them and left. After that seeing Leon unhappy Angelica and Olivia tried to cheer him up by asking some questions. The masked man returned and he still has two charms left but Leon didn't get the kinds that compatible to him then the masked man gave his opinion that the charms will be more compatible to Olivia and Angelica. Leon gave it to them then Angelica's follower arrived trying to win her favor again, she then excused herself and left.

Leon, Olivia and Angelica praying

The next day the three of them met again in the shrine but they don't know what to talk about and the atmosphere around them is so awkward. After that they pray together with Leon offering a large sum of money. Leon wished out loud for good marriage which made Olivia and Angelica creeped out, he then prayed silently and suddenly he blurted out some indecent things that made Angelica and Olivia embarrassed. Because of what he was saying in front of children Angelica pulled his ear and dragged him out while Olivia apologizing and telling to young shrine maidens to forget what they heard then she also dragged Leon out of the shrine.

After the three of them returned to the cruise liner to return back to the academy, the liner was suddenly surrounded by monsters and battleships of the Principality of Fanoss. As the liner did not have any weapons at all to fight against them, Princess Hertrude gave them one hour to decide if they wanted to surrender and die. An envoy was sent by them to pick up any students belonging to baron rank higher as prisoners of war, but Angelica deciding to sacrifice herself, as she was a Duke's daughter, stepped forward to let the others escape. Leon and Olivia tried to protest against this but the other students stopped them from doing anything. Angelica was led to the main ship VIP room where Hertrude greeted her there. Angelica, a bit shocked, smiled fearlessly asked if the Principality was really ready to against a full all-out war against the Kingdom to which Hertrude replied they were as they had the monsters help for it. An official them came to ask about the hostage situation, but to her dismay, Hertrude replied that Angelica as a hostage would be enough and they can kill the others.

After one hour had passed, Hertrude went to the see how the students were choosing to die and beckoned Angelica to watch. But seeing the liner moving in a collision course she was shocked and immediately asked for the Magic Flute, Angelica realizing that the flute was their secret weapon. Tears formed in Angelica's eyes when she saw Leon leading the charge against them in Schwert declaring that the students will prevail and the one leading them, Leon was one of the finest knights the Kingdom has ever got.

Garrett came to report that the monster their ship was on had eaten Leon. Angelica was terror stricken and glared at him, but to her relief Leon came through bursting through the monster was able to rescue and also take the Magic Flute and Hertrude as a hostage. They quickly retreated declaring to the soldiers of the Principality to drop their weapons as he had taken their princess as hostage with Angelica feeling grateful to Leon who had come to rescue him. He quickly went to the cruise liner and let Angelica and Hertrude get off there, but to everyone's dismay Garrett had ordered all the ships to open fire with Hertrude using a spell to release the monsters out of her control so the monsters would attacked the one who was controlling, so the monsters began moving towards the liner as well. Angelica seeing this was asking her why she was going to such desperate lengths. Seeing this Leon went out again to buy some time for them and Angelica wishing to help him as well was suddenly surrounded by flames with her red charm glowing faintly, was shocked as she recognized the magic as Fire Lance but she was not ever to use this before. Grateful for the miracle she used it to blow away the monsters and quickly went to Olivia who was lying on the floor after using up all her magic to protect the ship. She supported Olivia and tried to take her away from the deck where all the fighting was going on. Olivia began telling how she wanted to help them as she always dragged Leon and her down. Angelica rebuked her mentality telling her that helping her was never any problem as she was her precious friend. Suddenly one the warships rammed into their ship and to save Olivia Angelica pushed her and burned the monster who was racing towards them. The deck tilted at that exact moment which caused Angelica to lose her footing with Angelica managing to still remain by latching on the handrails, but the handrails were on the verge of breaking as well and at this height she was surely to die if she was to fall. Angelica had just made peace with her coming death but Olivia plunged forward grasping her hand with a pure look of determination and together with her help and Angelica using her last bit of strength climbed back safely on the deck. Angelica was angry on Olivia as she could have fallen of as well with her but Olivia replied that she had to save her with tears rolling down her eyes as Angelica had said she was her friend with Angelica calling her a fool as it was not enough justification to put her life on risk. Just them another quake occurred through the ship and this time Olivia was the one who went tumbling down over the edge. Angelica stretched out her her hands but she could not reach Olivia in time. Leon then plunged downward on his way to rescue Olivia and Angelica feeling relieved when he saw him rescue Olivia. Angelica hugged when Olivia when Leon returned to the liner to let her down there. To their astonishment Partner came at that moment and started firing towards the enemy ships and monsters. Leon then went to fight with Arroganz with Angelica and Olivia holding on Hertrude with Leon telling them to evacuate to the deck.

After Angelica and Olivia with Hertrude were aboard Partner, the three of them retreated to a room to keep her safe in case somebody attacks amidst the chaos and also to keep an eye on them. Hertrude on seeing the black armors was shocked as Vandel was told not to sortie with Angelica being shocked as she could not believe that the Black Knight was here. With Olivia being clueless about him, Angelica explained about him to Olivia with her asking if Leon would be able to defeat such a strong opponent with Hertrude declaring that Vandel was their strongest knight and he was not someone who would lose to Leon. Leon had quite a hard fight against the Black Knight and the squadron he was leading but Leon was still able to win against them without killing anyone. Luxion destroyed the last remaining monsters who were gathering with them being able to thwart the invasion. Angelica and Olivia waited for Leon in his room in Partner, but due to being too tired after the whole fight they fell asleep in his room before Leon came.

A few days after the invasion, Angelica was summoned back to their estate by Gilbert to discuss how Leon was expanding his network of alliance through airship trading; he couldn't make sense out of the situation as Leon seemed to be preparing for war, while the Kingdom had gotten quite relaxed after the Fanoss "incident", so he asked Angelica's thoughts about this. She replied that she didn't know much except that Leon had become more busy, training and frequenting the dungeons whenever he can. Angelica then inquired Gilbert about Hertrude's fate; to which he replied that she was going to study in the academy as a foreign exchange student even though the Redgrave Household were against it, but a Marquess's faction having become stronger due to recent events were in favor with idea of her studying in the academy as this would show her the prosperity of the Kingdom firsthand. Gilbert then told his sister that she has been getting quite close to the commoner girl, thus she should protect her if she was precious to her. Gilbert on that note also said that they were going to take another look at her underlings as two girls in her previous entourage had betrayed the Redgrave House. Gilbert then suddenly asked Angelica about Leon and how he still has not gotten a fiancée for himself even though he is in the upper-fifth court and was already knighted. She was a bit confused as Leon was supposed to be in the lower-fifth rank until graduation with Gilbert realizing that he had not yet told her of Leon's promotion.

With the second term gradually coming to an end, Leon had a tea party with Angelica and Olivia making small with each other. Angelica then suddenly asked Leon why he gave Chris credit for defeating the Black Knight with him being the one who had done everything. Leon tried to escape by telling her that he had done that based on the current political situation, with her complimenting him as it was not a bad move as the Arclight House viewed Leon as an enemy but due to Leon giving Chris credit of winning against the Black Knight would have stopped any plans they had against Leon and Chris would be reinstated as the heir of his house again due to this. Luxion then told Leon that the situation turned out very well for him with Leon bragging about how fortunate Luxion was to have such a master. Angelica and Olivia leaned forward to look at Luxion as he did not have any reasons to hide anymore with Olivia giving him the nickname "Lux". Leon then told them that he actually gave it to Chris because The Prince's Entourage was not that bad with Angelica agreeing as she believed Marie was the root source of all evil. Olivia then told them both that the boys have been hanging around a storehouse these days, with them thinking what they are up to. A challenge letter came a few days later to Leon with him convincing Angelica that he would deliberately lose against them leaving the six of them alone. The duel was on the end of term with the award ceremony next day. Angelica was with Olivia watching the fight from the stands but Leon who was supposed to lose against them had to destroy their armor before it explode to save Greg leading to him winning the duel.

The next day Leon was in his room depressed as he did not want to destroy their armor but if he did not Greg was going to die. But no one seemed to believe him except Master who believed that Leon had his reasons for doing these. Angelica, Olivia, Clarice, Deirdre with Leon's parents and Nicks and Jenna were present in his room with Angelica apologizing to Balcus as Leon was like that the whole time after the rematch with them having to force him into a suit. Leon then asked why he was in a suit whereas all the other students who had participated in the fight were going in their academy uniform. Angelica became a bit annoyed as she had explained the whole thing yesterday to Leon. She then began her explanation again telling Leon that he was the one who had the most achievements to recognize even though he had passed the credit of defeating the Black Knight to Chris. Leon was the one who had taken Hertrude as a captive and seized a fleet worth of airships and armor which he gave to the Kingdom. He had also organized the rescue of the crew and the students which led to him and Chris getting an actual medal in the ceremony. Leon was being promoted to viscount lower-fourth rank after the ceremony. Leon hearing this was shocked as he did not want to rise in ranks again, with Leon mumbling to himself that this was all a dream. Angelica, with everyone else, was present in the ceremony where Leon was promoted to viscount lower-fourth rank.

During winter break, she was teaching Olivia horse riding at her household's estate telling her that they were going to be judged not only in academics, but also in practical tests like horse riding.

Relationships[]

Family[]

As a father to Angelica, he only wished for her to be happy. After the duel, he got Leon to take Angelica to his household in the countryside to help her recover her broken heart. They are very close as he calls her Angie, a nickname only people who are close to her can call her. Is often surprised by Angelica's growth as a woman, a lover and even acknowledges her for her unwavering loyalty and admiration for Leon as a sign of her keen insight.

As the new head of the family, She respects her brother and adores his charm and is often at odds with him earlier in the series because he kept criticizing Leon and trying to make her give up on him. Upon witnessing Leon's deeds and clearing each obstacle ever put in his way, Gilbert has developed great respect for Leon, often teasing Angelica for being able to pick a "diamond in the rough"

Lover[]

Angelica first noticed Leon after hearing about his stunning success as an adventurer. She considered introducing Leon to Julius, hoping to expand her fiance's connections which would support him in the future.

The incident involving the prince and his entourage sparked the relationship between the two. Leon was the only man who stood up for Angelica in her most desperate and isolated moment. Moreover, he and Olivia also helped her move on from Julius. Angelica, hence, was very grateful for his support. Though occasionally perplexed by some of his eccentricities, She came to trust Leon more than her original followers.

Over time, Angelica developed romantic feelings for Leon. However, she struggled with the idea of freedom to love and could not express her feelings honestly. The matter turned increasingly complicated as her best friend, Olivia, also loved Leon. The man's cowardice regarding romance did not help either.

Nonetheless, Angelica and Leon unmistakably love each other. Angelica usually displays possessiveness over Leon. Olivia aside, Angelica would intimidate any girl trying to approach him romantically. Leon, in return, is very protective of Angelica and will react hostilely to anyone who insults or means her harm. For instance, Leon attempted to behead Marie after he learned about Angelica's public humiliation at Marie's hand.

After the conflict between the kingdom and the principality, Angelica finally acknowledged her feelings and settled the matter with Olivia. Much to her joy, Her father betrothed her to Leon, and the engagement ceremony took place shortly before Leon's study abroad at the Alzer Republic. Nevertheless, their betrothment was kept secret from Leon until the very last moment since Leon would likely escape if he knew it beforehand. Leon also views her as the First of his betrothed and granting her all the authority to act in the best interests for his house and family, showing his trust in her decisions whether in wartime or peace time.

Others[]

Originally Angelica was never meant to get along with Olivia as both were each other's foil, but thanks to Marie's intervention in the story and Leon introducing Olivia when Angelica was in need of a friend, both of them got along exceedingly well, enough for them to be considered best friends. Following the events, after the duel with the Prince's group, both Olivia and Angelica spent a lot of time together. Their love for one another was strong enough that the royal airship (Luxion and Leon believe it's a joke item as its requirements were for the pilots of the ship to be truly in love) deemed them more than worthy enough to captain it. Their feelings for each other were great enough that Angelica was more than happy to have Olivia as a fellow bride to Leon.

Leon noted that despite Angelica and Olivia stating that they were best friends, he thinks they could be a couple. But whenever Leon said this to both Angelica and Olivia, both of them would be embarrassed and insist that their love is only for Leon. This however makes Leon happy as he also loves them both. Olivia often turns towards Angelica for advice, be it about how to behave around nobility, situational occurrences or anything that is troubling her. Angelica knows Olivia is one of the few people to pull her out of her jealous rage, or calming her down before she makes a reckless decision. However she also has trouble saying no to her whenever Olivia wishes to stand her ground and generally caves in to her logical demands.

Julius was Angelica's former fiancé. Their engagement was to strengthen the tie between the royal family and the Redgrave family. Although Angelica devoted herself to Julius, the crown prince sadly did not reciprocate her love and saw their relationship as purely political.

Angelica's relationship with Julius took a turn for the worse after Marie's interference. As Julius grew closer to Marie, he increasingly treated Angelica with coldness. When her followers bullied Marie without her knowledge, Julius coldly dismissed Angelica's explanation. He deemed her guilty and told her to stay away from him. Their relationship reached the breaking point during the party when Angelica confronted Marie. Not only did Julius defend Marie, but he also humiliated Angelica publicly. In her desperation, Angelica challenged Marie to a duel which Julius and his friends chose to represent Marie. In the end, Angelica won, thanks to Leon, who volunteered to fight for her.

After the duel, Angelica poured her heart out in telling Julius how hard she worked so she would not hold him back as queen. But Julius took it as her only seeing him as The Prince, not as Julius, causing Julius to reject her love. As Angelica was leaving him in tears, she only apologized and wished for his happiness in the shadows.

After the dissolution of their engagement, Angelica was left heartbroken but soon recovered with Olivia and Leon's support. She still resented Julius for some time though she did not display it publicly. Angelica eventually moved on from Julius after falling in love with Leon.

In the present, Angelica has neutral feelings toward her former fiancé. She can hold a civil conversation and no longer has any ill will toward him. Occasionally, she is humorously stunned by his weird antics, which she never witnessed during their engagement. Because of support of Olivia and Leon, Angelica will often stand up for the Prince whenever she feels like his ideas or motives truly benefit the kingdom, which was a huge step in overcoming her feelings for the Crown Prince in such a short amount of time.

Mylene is the mother of Angelica's former fiancé Julius. The two share a relatively close relationship as Mylene served as Angelica's mentor during the latter's training in the royal palace. As Julius's mother, Mylene felt responsible for her son's actions toward Angelica and was relieved that her former apprentice managed to move on. She considers the Queen to be a truly great leader, and one of the few people she would call a friend, regardless of rank. But is surprised when Mylene told her she fell in love with Leon, which shocked and surprised her but at the same time knowing that her marriage was political understood that even a great leader like the Queen could be weak to matters of the heart. Despite knowing the queen had fallen in love with Leon, she had the utmost faith that the Queen would never actually chase after the notorious Bartfort if it meant causing a betrayal towards the girl she viewed as her own daughter.

Noelle is Leon's third fiancée. Angelica met her during her first visit to Marie's mansion in the Alzer Republic. She didn't like her much at first. They only greeted each other briefly before parting ways. Unbeknownst to Angelica, Noelle, who had fallen in love with Leon, was left heartbroken after realizing that Angelica was Leon's fiancée.

During her visit to Leon's house in the Alzer Republic, however, Angelica stumbled upon Noelle hugging intimately with Leon. Angelica jumped to the conclusion that Noelle was Leon's mistress. She went furious absolutely to the pair while Noelle remained apologetic toward her. Thankfully, Luxion came to clear up all misunderstandings and defuse the tension.

After hearing about her situation, Angelica became more sympathetic toward Noelle. Nonetheless, She still wanted to bring Noelle back with them to the Holfort Kingdom, regardless of Noelle's consent. As a noble, she felt obligated to prioritize the Kingdom's interests; The Sacred Tree was too valuable to be lost to another country.

During their attempt to save Louise, Angelica, Olivia, and Noelle entered the spirit world, which created a mental connection among them. Angelica ended up noticing Noelle's feelings toward Leon. In turn, Noelle also felt Angelica's anger and jealousy toward her. Before she returned to the Holfort Kingdom, Angelica recognized Noelle as a love rival. But she made things clear that she would not give up Leon to anyone, including Noelle. Later she finally decided to let her marry Leon because she doesn't wish to be viewed as a hypocrite, and knows the pain of suppressing love for someone else, but makes sure that Noelle ranks third, and shouldn't be left alone with Leon until she feels she can trust her enough to not take advantage of him. They often bicker as sisters, because of the similar stubbornness and will often get into weird competitions with each other well others look on with puzzled expressions.

Angelica is antagonistic toward Marie, who seduces Julius, Angelica's fiancé, and causes their engagement to collapse. Her hatred was so great that, at one point, she planned to drag Marie down, even if she had to sacrifice everything.

Her animosity toward Marie gradually subsides after she falls in love with Leon. Nonetheless, she still prefers not to involve with the infamous false saintess unless necessary. Angelica also remains wary of Marie "seducing" Leon. She became irritated when she learned Leon stayed in the same place as Marie in the Alzer Republic.

Clarice is Angelica's associate from the nobility circle and a senior in the Academy. Likewise, Clarice was also a former fiancée of one of the Prince's Entourage. Angelica hence is somewhat sympathetic toward Clarice since they had similar heartbroken experiences. While they had never been close friends, Clarice and Angelica are now on speaking terms with each other after Leon helped Clarice find a proper closure with Jilk.

Nevertheless, Angelica is usually on guard against Clarice as she senses the latter's feelings for Leon. Clarice herself openly approaches Leon romantically and is nonchalant toward Angelica's intimidation. She doesn't really get jealous, more like clingy because Cleare is also well endowed, and after accepting Noelle, is adamant not to add any more women.

Deirdre is Angelica's senior at the Academy and acquaintance in aristocratic society. They have been in frequent contact after the hijacking incident. Although their relationship is not bad and often cooperative, Angelica is visibly annoyed by Deirdre's openly romantic attraction toward Leon, Angelica's fiancé. The fact that Deirdre is not deterred by her intimidation does not help either.

  • Angelica's Followers

As the daughter of Duke Redgrave, Angelica had a group of followers who were children of her family's vassal houses. They served her as assistants, guards, and servants. Unlike Clarice's followers, however, They lacked loyalty toward their mistress and only cared about their and their family's interests. For instance, they readily bullied Marie to curry favor with Angelica because there were no repercussions for tormenting a daughter of a poor viscount household. By contrast, none of Angelica's followers dared to stand against Julius for their mistress's sake. Leon once rightly called them spineless. Another fact that attends to this is that despite being childhood friends with Angelica, the two unnamed female followers still betrayed her and only treated their friendship as non-existent.[2]

After the duel between Leon and the Prince's Entourage, Angelica lost all trust in her followers and no longer wanted anything to do with them. Despite their past acts of disloyalty, Angelica's followers still shamelessly tried to beg for her forgiveness. They actively followed her around though Angelica refused to even speak to them.

Ultimately, their subsequence actions justified Angelica's distrust. Two female followers conspired with the Principality of Fanoss to take Angelica hostage. Even those, who were not part of the conspiracy, still willingly handed her over to the enemies. After the war against the Principality went terribly and the defeat seemed imminent, all Angelica's followers again abandoned her in an attempt to save their skin. They later suffered the consequences, including execution and demotion.

Abilities[]

Angelica is a competent lady whose proficiency covers various fields of expertise. In addition to her natural talents, her passionate personality helps motivate Angelica to make a serious effort to learn. Furthermore, she was born into the Duke family, which granted her access to the best education possible. Her father believes that, had Angelica been born as a male, she would have been equal to her brother and worthy of succeeding him as the Duke. [3]

Physical Fitness[]

As she has been trained from a young age, Angelica is highly athletic and can easily keep up with her male peers in physical activities. She can walk or run long distances and shows no noticeable sign of fatigue, while her female friends are entirely out of breath when doing the same. [4]Angelica can also lift the body of an adult male and run with little effort.

Combat Skills[]

Although fighting is generally deemed a male's job in the Holfort Kingdom, Angelica is among noblewomen who possess combat skills. During the adventure at the Old Castle of the Golden Hand and the Holy Kingdom's raid of the Royal Academy, Angelica displayed her fighting skill and proficiency in using firearms, including an unconventional sub-machine gun. Although she is not on the level of a highly skilled knight like Leon and his friends, Angelica is good enough to hold her own against most normal opponents.

Amateur Adventurer[]

Aside from enrolling in the academy, which automatically registers students as adventurers and has them going through the basic adventuring curriculum; Angelica being a duke's daughter, spends a small portion of her time training adventuring skills. While it is not exactly her knack, Angelica's usual preparedness and quick wit can be considered a helpful asset inside dungeons, as seen when she swiftly rushed to Julius' aid.[5] Looting treasures is also one of the few things that turn a normally mature Angelica into a somewhat childish person. It's one of the few things she enjoys more than anything else.

Horsemanship[]

As a noblewoman from a duke household with access to the family's facility, Angelica is a decent enough horse rider that she can confidently teach Olivia.[6]

Novice Sorceress[]

Unlike her best friend who dedicated all her studies to magic, Angelica being a flexible duchess doesn't possess as much mastery in the mystic arts. But being a descendent of the Saintess Anne's little sister (speculated by the Saintess' spirit itself)[7], Angelica does have a high magic affinity. That would suggest her magic affinity could have the potential to grow as close as Olivia's, though the lack of practice means unless under special circumstances, Angelica wouldn't tap in this natural magical talent. Her incantations involve the use of magic circles as interface.

  • Fire Magic

One of the fundamental elements in wizardry, fire magic was shown to be utilized by other people such as Brad[5] and Pierre's followers[8]; but it is safe to say no one has performed feats with pyromancy like Angelica. Her Saintess-related bloodline and fiery personality at times can boost her fire manipulation capability to an unprecedented level, though this impulsive use of spells can result in catastrophic damage.

As a strong user of fire magic, Angelica can spontaneously ignite fire out of thin air and manipulate them at will. She also has fire and heat immunity, evidenced by the firestorm she summoned up does not burn her the slightest.[7]

  • Whirlwind of Fire: When actively engaging in combat, an inferno would engulf Angelica[9], acting as a protective barrier that incinerates projectiles and prevents physical contact[7]; whether that is mystical flame or physical fire is unknown. Normally the firestorm don't burn up Angelica's clothing or the surrounding, but an out-of-control fire tornado summoned by her would consume everything, intense heat can be felt from a distance and the fire whirl is high enough to dye the sky red.
  • Fire Lance/Fireball: Angelica's primary offensive spell. To activate the incantation, she would charge up the attack with a magic circle; once ready, several powerful bursts of flames would rush out and swarm the enemies, chasing until their respective targets are penetrated/burnt/exploded. Each lance is potent enough to one-hit regular monsters summoned by the Magic Flute, or breakthrough magic barriers as well as loosely-placed stone walls.[7] Alternatively, while not in combat mode (without a wall of fire around her), Angelica can also quickly discharge a singular fireball. The conjuration has been seen used against Principality's monsters;[9] Emile;[10] Gilbert and Cordelia.[7]
  • Magic Transferal: Angelica seems to have the capability to share her innate magic energy and resonate her power with other spell casters to amplify all parties' magical power for the duration of the assimilation. She can invoke this ability by synchronizing gestures/prayers or maintaining physical contact inside a magic circle with involved collaborators through a conduit. The most prominent uses of this spell were against the Fanoss' invasion force (power-shared with Olivia through Royal Airship Weiss)[11] and against possessed—Louise (power-shared with Olivia and Noelle through the Sacred Sapling)[12]
  • Mental Shield: In the astral dimension (inside people's mind/dream world), it is possible for Angelica to conjure a magic circle that act as a barrier to protect her and her allies against psychic attack. This incantation was used to protect Olivia's spirit from Louise's mental attacks.[12]

Superintendent[]

Angelica demonstrates an excellent amount of skill in multitasking, household management, philosophy, leadership and politics for a person of her age. Originally trained (even by Queen Mylene) from a very young age to be Holfort's future queen, she now puts these skills to use to be more useful to Leon. As the first fiancé and future head wife of Leon, she takes care of all of their funding, housing and pulling political strings behind the scene; together with Master and Queen Mylene, she is referred to as the people who do the clean-up every time Leon goes overboard.[13]

Items[]

As the Duke of Redgrave's beloved daughter, Angelica gets funding from her household and has access to assets and an airship of the Redgrave fleet; though these aren't technically her personal possession she can freely use them anytime.

  • (Red) "Blessing of Element" Talisman: A rare (described by Leon as "jackpot") in-game charm that boosts the user's magical potency, sorcery learning/growth rate as well as increasing affinity toward elemental magic, though the effects are currently unknown in the world. It was gifted to Angelica by Leon during their first-year (second semester) school trip.
  • Licorne: A 200m-long airship commissioned by Cleare to serve the two Leon's fiancées. Though formally owned by Leon and Luxion, Angelica is one of the principal users and the acting captain.[14]

Etymology[]

  • The name Angelica means "messenger of God, angel" or more literal sense "Angelic Woman or Holy Lady".

Trivia[]

  • Angelica appears to have a recurring color theme: red.
  • Angelica bears an almost striking resemblance to Artoria Pendragon (Lancer) of Fate/Grand Order, without the ahoge on her head and having a red iris instead of green.
  • Kristen McGuire (Angelica's English voice actress) is engaged to Clifford Chapin (Greg Fou Seberg's English voice actor).
  • Angelica is known for her inquisitive mind and noble ideals. And her working on herself since her dis-engagement to the Crown Prince.
  • She is also the first to become aware of Leon's Imposter Syndrome and instructs Olivia how to approach her feelings, and suppressing her own in the process, despite her attempts she can no longer deny she loves Leon and treasures them above anyone else.
  • She blindly trusts Leon, to the point of being seen as a fanatical supporter, because in truth Leon has done so much for her, and she feels the need to repay his kindness with her steadfast trust. Causing her older brother and father to see that despite Leon's downsides, he brought out the best characteristics of a Redgrave: Acceptance and Understanding.
  • She knows she has a fiery temper, and even a scarier envious side, and despite knowing in her heart Leon wouldn't ever cheat on her, just seeing him being friendly with other women around her brings out the worst of her insecurities raging to the surface. Leon is absolutely terrified of upsetting Angelica, since she often pulls him by the ear or other antics.
  • She is actually the one to invite another woman to marry Leon, much to the shock of everyone else, since it was very out of character for her. Her reason was that is she truly fell for Leon and does not wish to use him for status, then she can't stand in the way of those feelings, as it would be hypocritical of her.
  • She makes her close friends, lover and family make sure to call her "Angie" as a show of her showing her more casual side. So far she has forbidden Noelle to call her Angie, so Noelle as rebellious as she is starts calling her “Lica”, which Angelica begrudgingly allows and even thinks it’s cuter then her current nickname.
  • Angelica often stress eats whenever she is away from Leon, which is usually worsened if she finds out Leon has been around unknown women and often has stress nightmares of him seducing other women. Ironically she doesn't behave this way if she sends Olivia or Luxion as a "Anti-Woman Escort" to make sure she doesn't fret over such trivial fears.
  • Angelica and Olivia have said multiple times that they both only love Leon.
